@UCDavisEcon Jorda, Singh, Taylor show lasting economic damage from pandemics

@UCDavisEcon Professors Oscar Jorda, Sanjay Singh, and Alan Taylor find that the depressive effects of pandemics on the economy can last for four decades. They explain their findings for policymakers and the general public in two distillations of their research paper, "Longer-Run Economic Consequences of the Pandemic," in the International Monetary Fund periodical Finance and Development and VoxEU.

The work was widely covered at home and abroad by outlets including our own California Aggie, the Economist Magazine, Seeking Alpha, Sydney Morning Herald, the Upjohn Institute, and the Yucatan Times. The World Bank used the paper to inform its own forecasts for global growth during and after the public health crisis.
