College Blue Cluster Staff Team keeps @UCDavisEcon programs going strong during pandemic

The College of Letters and Science Blue Cluster Staff supporting Economics students and faculty will be celebrated for their many accomplishments this past very challenging year at their annual retreat on August 6th, 2021. The Blue Cluster staff, led by CAO Monica Fischer, have been integral to every function of the Economics Department, and transitioned seamlessly to complete remote work during a global pandemic.

The Financial office, led by Business Office and Graduate Programs Manager, Jeremy Till, manage resource flows so that many events, student hiring, purchasing, and travel and entertainment can take place smoothly and professionally. Event Planner Lori Odenweller is looking forward to seeing events occur in-person and on campus in the future after a year of Zoom events only due to the pandemic. We look forward to hosting events like the Levine Family Fund series, and our department research seminars of which we host 5-6 on a weekly basis allowing the University community and the broader public to be exposed to new discoveries. We also welcome Beth Kim to our team as the new Graduate Programs and Business Office Assistant. Beth will be managing key control for the Department, text book adoptions, as well as backing up Lori in our purchasing needs. Beth will also be an integral part of our Graduate programs assisting our Graduate coordinator in the administrative tasks that are essential to the program operating smoothly.

Graduate Program Coordinator, Stephanie Ivory, works closely with our graduate students and graduate program Chair, Professor Athanasios Geromichalos, to ensure they are staying on track to make good progress in our program.

Our Undergraduate Advising Center, led by Anya Gibson, is an integral part of our student’s success. Anya’s team of advisors this past year were: Brandy Fleming, Chris Doseck, Joann Pyon, and Cindy Alvarenga. Cindy recently received a promotion to work in the College of Engineering Dean’s office, so we have recently welcomed Saranjit Uppal to the team of advisors and are so excited to have her join us! We have also had a wonderful team of peer advisors this last year led by Brandy Fleming, Allison Nicole Hodge, Devika Vikram Watave, Dhanya Indraganti, Viviana Lucero Gonzalez as well as student assistant Amy Nguyen who ran our virtual front desk on Zoom.

Personnel analyst Amanda Isaac helps to make sure the good things happening in research, teaching and service are visible as Economics faculty advance through the University Merit and Promotions system.

The Cluster is supported by IT services managed by Jeremy Phillips and Janine Carlson who keep faculty, staff, and students running on top-quality computing and database systems. A special thanks goes out to the team of help desk staff who have diligently continued to operate the help desk in-person throughout the pandemic and make themselves available for any of our emergency computing needs.

Manager of the research service center, Yoke Dellenback helps faculty apply for and manage grants from organizations like the National Science Foundation and the Gates Foundation to sponsor world-class research.
