Ann Stevens discusses how California's incoming governor can address poverty

In a recent interview with Capital & Main, Professor Ann Stevens shares her thoughts on how incoming California Governor Gavin Newsom's administration can best tackle poverty in the Golden State. Stevens points to three policy priorities: (i) expanding the state's Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) to better support low-wage workers, (ii) increasing and stabilizing the funding of California's community colleges, and (iii) replenishing state grants for safety-net programs like CalWorks.

Professor Stevens serves as the Deputy Director of the UC Davis Center for Poverty Research.
