PRACTICE
PROBLEMS
on topics not covered in the textbook
Important
Instructions:
Try these practice problems on your own. If you
get together with
friends to do the work, one of you will figure out the correct answer
and
tell the rest of you. That person will then be able to answer a similar
question in an exam, while chances are that the rest of you will have
the
same doubts and difficulties you had when you first tried the problems.
The purpose of the homework and practice problems is to give you an
opportunity
to test your knowledge and highlight areas in which you are weak.
Don’t
waste this opportunity!
If you get stuck, it is very likely that the
reason is that you
don’t know what something (e.g. "blocking coalition") means.
The homework
and practice questions (and the exams) are about applying
concepts
and definitions. If you don’t know a definition of course you
cannot apply
it! If you get stuck don't peek at the answers. You
need to
identify what it is that you don’t know, read the online notes
and your
notes and then go back to the question. Also,
make use of my office hours and the TA's office hours.
